Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and adaptable Air Quality Data Scientist looking to leverage their expertise to help make our global network of air quality and climate monitoring sensors easier to manage, more accurate, and ultimately lead to more impactful outcomes. Your work will help bring cleaner air to the world.



  • Work closely with the other members of the Clarity Lab team to develop novel approaches for air quality sensor data calibration and quality control
  • Carefully document your research to communicate your findings with the Hardware, Software, and Customer Success teams
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers to develop tools that allow the Customer Success team to leverage your findings, particularly as they pertain to sensor data correction
  • Research approaches to network-based sensor calibration and quality control
  • Develop methodologies for synthesizing results from air quality measurement networks and work with the Software Engineering team to incorporate the approaches into our system
  • Work with Hardware Engineers to analyze field and laboratory data to inform testing plans and improve hardware design
  • Prepare technical documentation for academic and patent publications

The candidate should:

  • Be an advanced user of a scripting language (Python or R preferred)
  • Have a BS, MS, or PhD degree in a relevant field OR at least five years of relevant work experience
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills in English
  • Be an independent worker capable of producing high-quality work as a member of an asynchronous team
  • Have experience cleaning, validating, and preparing datasets for producing high-quality analyses
  • Have experience retrieving data from RESTful APIs

It’d be great if the candidate:

  • Has experience developing models for production use in R or Python
  • Has familiarity with a variety of data science methodologies in order to advise on and lead the technical approach to tackle varied scientific questions
  • Is comfortable communicating complex technical work in simple terms, so members of interdisciplinary teams can understand technical approaches and accurately communicate them with clients
  • Has an understanding of the physics and chemistry of air quality
  • Has an understanding of traditional and novel air quality measurement techniques
  • Speaks languages other than English, since we work globally
